Welcome to chequers!

Welcome to Chequers Hotel!

Family owned & run by the Murfett family; this historic hotel was once known as Hotel Bullsbrook, iconically now known as the Red Roof by RAAF personnel & local’s alike because of you guessed it, “The Red Roof”. Constructed in the 1910’s which makes it older then the RAAF base itself; then renovated in the mid 1930’s (we assume to accomodate for the growing area & RAAF due to be built just across the road) by architect William G.Bennett; notable for his updates of the Raffles Hotel & the Ocean Beach Hotel as well as designing the Regal Theatre in Subiaco.

Over 100 years since its foundation, Chequers Hotel is now the only Inn that remains in operation of the five that were once located along Great Northern Highway & has evolved into what you see today.

In our slides you’ll see some historic photos, the before & after the renovations in the 1930’s, one of which shows a crowd outside the Hotel welcoming soldiers home from WW1. Another photo shows a framed mosaic linoleum aircraft, which was uncovered in 2017 when we were renovating some areas of the pub, and in this case the storage area between our bars! The medallion was well preserved but the mystery as to why it was there and who put it there remains a mystery.
